RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Operations Manager in the Student Service Centre (SSC) is responsible for:
  • Enhancing the image of the University by ensuring the creation and maintenance of an excellent client service environment;
  • Effective and efficient operational management of the SSC through friendly and welcoming hostess function;
  • Innovative client services, floor management, promotion of streamlined and user friendly self-services, identification and resolving of problems and congestion, attending to complex client complaints, concerns and problems, and providing inputs that result in satisfactory client service;
  • Collecting and disseminating information, managing the registration project, co-ordinating and providing operational support to outside campuses' client services;
  • Ensuring that technology systems related to client care are up-to-date and always functioning.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree;
  • Five years' experience in:
    • Client service and customer relationship management;
    • Operations and administrative management;
  • Three years' experience in:
    • A supervisory role;
    • Project management;
    • Financial management and budgeting;
    • The management and monitoring of IT systems (software and hardware);
  • A valid driver's licence (Minimum code B).


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Communication skills;
  • Analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Conflict management skills;
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to motivate others;
  • Computer literacy (MS Office and e-mails);
  • Time management skills.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Three years' experience at a tertiary institution which includes the following:
    • Knowledge of academic processes at a tertiary institution;
    • Working knowledge of study information, admission procedures and pre requisites at a tertiary institution;
    • Working knowledge of a registration process at a tertiary institution;
    • Student accounts experience;
    • Bursaries and loans experience;
    • Experience in access control, issuing of parking discs and student cards;
  • Knowledge of the following Acts:
    • Basic conditions of Employment Act;
    • Employment Equity Act;
    • Occupational Health and Safety Act;
    • Protection of Personal Information Act.


PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
