RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be required to:
  • Provide the University with cost effective quality support in respect of student discipline and associated matters in residences;
  • Conduct, plan and coordinate training to all relevant stakeholders specifically focusing on residence rules and regulations;
  • Provide the Residence Heads and members of the Residence Affairs and Accommodation Department with guidance in respect of matters relating to discipline in residences to ensure effective decision-making;
  • Provide administrative support to Residence Affairs by arrangement of the Registrar's office.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • LLB Degree;
  • Four years' working experience in a legal environment;
  • Four years' experience in working with disciplinary processes;
  • A valid Driver's licence.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Knowledge in Administrative Law, Law of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Law of Evidence and law applicable to higher education institutions;
  • Sensitivity to the diverse composition and culture of the student community, academics and support services;
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office);
  • Excellent language proficiency;
  • Good interpersonal relations;
  • Communication skills;
  • Conflict management skills;
  • Administration Skills;
  • Negotiating skills.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • A relevant qualification focusing on psychology and/or counselling;
  • Four years' experience in administrative systems and processes at a higher education institution;
  • Two years' experience in counselling and student support.


PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
