  • Undergraduate teaching in veterinary pathology and histology;
  • Experiential training in veterinary diagnostic pathology;
  • Preparation, presentation and review of course material;
  • Lectures, seminars and tutorials, evaluation of students, student support and participation in curriculum improvement and development;
  • Diagnostic and biopsy duties on a rotational basis;
  • Active participation in departmental research programmes and service rendering activities, including service rendering to developing communities and continuing education programmes;
  • Administrative and management tasks as delegated by the Head of Department.

  • A BVSc or BVMCh degree or an equivalent veterinary qualification;
  • Registered as a veterinarian with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC);
  • MSc or equivalent postgraduate degree in Veterinary Pathology or registered for the specialist MMedVet (Path) degree;
  • Appropriate experience and knowledge in diagnostic veterinary pathology;
  • Computer skills for presentation, word-processing and spread sheets;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills.

  • Research interest appropriate to the position;
  • Good language and communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;
  • Generic teaching competence including proficiency with presentation, word-processing and spreadsheet software.

  • Lecturing experience in veterinary histology and/or pathology;
  • Registered as a specialist veterinary pathologist with the SAVC.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
