Ranked in the top 200 in the world, AUT's School of Communication Studies is highly regarded. There is a strong commitment within the school to increase our numbers of Māori and Pacific academics. This is particularly important in efforts to diversify points of view within the media and communication industries in Aotearoa. The School is a vibrant and engaging place to work, with the curriculum currently being refreshed across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The research culture is also energetic and inclusive, with all staff who submitted a portfolio gaining a ranked grade in the most recent PBRF assessment exercise. Our strong links to industry underpin and inform staff research and ongoing curriculum development.

The Role

We have a fantastic permanent, full-time opportunity for a Lecturer in Communication and/or Media Studies to utilise their doctorate and develop their career in teaching, research and service, whilst also joining AUT's bold, innovative and supportive Maori and Pacific Early Career Academic Programme .

We are seeking Māori or Pacific scholars with expertise broadly within the field of communication or media studies. Of additional interest would be a background in screen studies or public relations/advertising, but this is not essential. You'll teach across programmes as assigned by the Head of School, we embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student experience is optimised. You will also publish actively in your specialised field - research is well supported within the School. Over time you'll also seek external research funding, engage with government, business, the professions and/or the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.

A collaborative, open and engaging attitude that is flexible to School requirements is essential! You'll join an open and highly collaborative group that supports the growth of its people. There is genuinely positive energy within the School and we offer an excellent research environment, with generous research support. The Faculty also offers a variety of contestable research funds.
