Job Details

AUT is vibrant, achievement-oriented and a rewarding place to work and is ranked in the top 1.2% of all universities worldwide . As one of the world's top 30 millennial universities and New Zealand's second-largest, it offers a stimulating teaching and research environment with strong connections to Government, business and industry.

Our Psychology team (within our School of Social Sciences and Public Policy ) focuses on the scientific study of human behaviour, providing a much-needed perspective on what humans need to develop and thrive. Our team teach psychology within the context of our society; the places where we live and work. With the continued increase in students in our BA Psychology major and the 2018 introduction of a new post-graduate programme in social and developmental psychology, Psychology at AUT is a growing and vibrant discipline and this is an exciting time for the department.

Because of the nature of what we teach in Psychology, other social sciences and public policy, having Māori and Pacific lecturers, supervisors and role models is critical to our students (many of whom come from Māori and Pacific communities). Our curriculum involves subject matters that need a Māori and Pacific perspective. This entails not just Psychology, but also Human Rights, Dispute Resolution, Criminology and Policy Studies. Our links to industry, government and communities are excellent in many areas, but improvements are always possible and would be enhanced by a Māori or Pacific scholar joining our school.

We have a fantastic permanent, full-time opportunity for a Lecturer in Psychology to utilise their PhD and develop their career in teaching, research and service, whilst also joining AUT's bold, innovative and supportive Māori and Pacific Early Career Academic Programme .

You'll teach across programmes as assigned by the Head of School, we embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student experience is optimised. You will also publish actively in your specialised field - research is well supported within the School. Over time you'll also seek external research funding, engage with government, business, the professions and/or the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.

A collaborative, open and engaging attitude that is flexible to School requirements is essential! You'll join an open and highly collaborative group that supports the growth of its people. There is genuinely positive energy within the School and we offer an excellent research environment, with generous research support. The Faculty also offers a variety of contestable research funds.
