Job Details

AUT is a vibrant, achievement-oriented and rewarding place to work and is ranked in the top 1.2% of all universities worldwide . As one of the world's top 30 millennial universities and New Zealand's second-largest, it offers a stimulating teaching and research environment with strong connections to health professions, Government, business and industry.

AUT's Department of Public & Environmental Health (part of the School of Public Health & Psychosocial Studies) is based at AUT's South Campus and is committed to supporting Māori and Pacific communities as a priority whilst growing and developing a unique and successful programme in this inter-disciplinary field. This is based on an aspiration to build the capacity of Māori or Pacific students as future leaders in public and environmental health in Aotearoa and to explore opportunities for research. The School has been successful at retaining and supporting the development of our early career academics and is seen by Māori and Pacific staff as a supportive environment in which to work. There are considerable untapped opportunities at AUT South in this field for growing teaching and research, and inter-disciplinary study, and that which incorporates a planetary health, sustainability and indigenous ontology agenda which is of growing importance in academia, and to which the School is supportive. The current leadership of the School is supportive of "honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi" (AUT Directions, theme 3, point 1), and to supporting mātauranga Māori as well as Pacific epistemologies in teaching and research.

The Role

We have a fantastic permanent, full-time opportunity based at our South Campus for a Lecturer in Public & Environmental Health to utilise their doctorate and develop their career in teaching, research and service, whilst also joining AUT's bold, innovative and supportive Māori and Pacific Early Career Academic Programme .

We are seeking Māori or Pacific scholars who can teach and undertake research within public and environmental health, which broadly interpreted includes a range of interventions and actions involved in health-related prevention, promotion and protection. Recently this has embraced the agenda of planetary health to address climate change. We embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed approaches to teaching where the student experience is optimised. You will also publish actively in your specialised field - research is well supported within the School. Over time you'll also seek external research funding, engage with government, business, the professions and/or the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.

A collaborative, open and engaging attitude that is flexible to School requirements is essential! You'll join an open and highly collaborative group that supports the growth of its people. There is genuinely positive energy within the School and we offer an excellent research environment, with generous research support. The Faculty also offers a variety of contestable research funds.
