The Role

An outstanding opportunity has arisen to provide strategic leadership, direction and operational management for the provision of exceptional library research, learning and digital services to the AUT community. Working closely with key academic stakeholders you'll unlock what faculties need and establish a clear service framework for academic engagement, learning success and online and open initiatives. Your enthusiasm will inspire and motivate as you lead a large team of approx. 37 EFTS. Our services are busy and our teams dedicated to excellence. There is huge potential as together we transform our approach to service delivery, set expectations, articulate value and deliver to it. This role joins our University Librarian and Director of Collections and Engagement, in the library's executive team.

What kind of person are we looking for?

You'll be a great people leader, experienced in leading change and understand how to transform and create outstanding university-wide services. Your knowledge of current trends in learning, teaching and research in universities will be critical, as will your understanding of how academic libraries contribute to scholarship - as you strategically shape the team's approach and engage our stakeholders. You'll be comfortable being highly visible, bold and creative on the journey ahead.

You'll have a passion and skill for community engagement, embracing agility, codesign and collaboration and you will already have experience working in a dynamic and innovative tertiary education context.

Applications and Key Selection Criteria

Applicants must submit their CV, cover letter, as well as a statement addressing the following key selection criteria:
  1. A postgraduate university degree and/or relevant industry experience. Formal qualifications in management and/or information technology or a formal library qualification would be desirable.
  2. Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in learning, teaching and research in universities
  3. A strong understanding of the context of academic libraries in the tertiary sector and their contribution to scholarship. Ideally, this includes information technology, and information management trends including open scholarship and digital dexterity.
  4. Significant experience successfully managing and leading multi-discipline service-focussed teams in changing environments
  5. A passion for community engagement and innovations in your field
  6. Demonstrable experience implementing successful change management initiatives
  7. Knowledge and understanding of best practice client service which meets the needs of users in an academic environment
  8. A service attitude and proven high-level interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to drive improvements
