Job Details

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Doctoral College team at the University of Southampton to lead on the development and enhancement of high quality professional development and associated activities for doctoral researchers across all disciplines.
The Doctoral College works in partnership with Faculty Graduate Schools to provide an inspiring and vibrant environment for doctoral researchers, combining 'local' and 'central' training, harnessing informal development opportunities (3 Minute Thesis Competition, Festival of Doctoral Research), and collaborating with other professional service teams (e.g. Public Engagement with Research unit, Centre for Higher Education Practice, Library Research team).

We are looking for:
• A passionate champion for the support and development of our doctoral researchers.
• An experienced manager with relevant familiarity and knowledge of higher education structures/systems relating to doctoral research, ideally in the specific context of 'researcher development'.
• An effective persuader/influencer who is comfortable working across disciplinary/departmental boundaries to maintain and build relationships and foster collaborative approaches.
• An experienced budget-holder, ideally with good knowledge of University of Southampton finance processes.
• Someone who enjoys being part of a small dispersed but dynamic team.
This senior role is permanent and part-time (0.5 FTE) allowing flexibility in work-pattern across the week; occasional evening working is required for delivery of some events/activities.

For an informal discussion about this post please contact Shelley Parr, CHEP Director ( s.j.parr@soton.ac.uk ) or Jo James, current Manager - Doctoral College Professional Development ( J.M.James@soton.ac.uk ).
