The post-docotral fellow will be part of the international team of the project. He will be involved in the collective and comparative study of international public policies of school catering, leading his own case study in a Western African country. Concerning this particular case study, she/he will study the place of food in local development policies, and especially school catering as part of integrated development programs, considering sustainable development issues, consumption and local production.

Centre Maurice Halbwachs (CMH) is offering a postdoctoral position for 6 months for a junior researcher in sociology. The postdoctoral fellowship is part of the CANTINEGALITE project Studying school catering as public policy, social system and child school practice. This project is funded by the French Paris-Emergences Program and led by Marie Plessz and Christine Tichit. The CANTINEGALITE Project study School meal as an institutional tool to regulate inequalities, and covers social inequalities at different levels : between territories, between social class, both in France and in an international comparative perspective, including southern countries. This comparative programme covers issues such as the governance of school catering, its practical organization and actors, its social reception including by children.

Centre Maurice Halbwachs is a research unit in social sciences located in Paris, France. The research teams and topics are: Inequalities and solidarity, Work, Gender class and race, Writing practices, social sciences of law and politics.
Employment status : A 6-month contract for a junior researcher (CNRS pay-grid). Part-time work is possible for one year. Starting date: October 1st , 2019.

Conditions for hiring
A PhD degree in sociology or a related discipline (e.g., demography, anthropology, geography, economics).

Skills
- Previous fieldwork experimented in Africa
- Good knowledge of main surveys methods and sociological interview
- A practice of mixed methods articulating qualitative and quantitative approaches will be appreciated
- A taste for interdisciplinarity and for comparative approaches
- French and English scientific writing, autonomy, rigour, ability to collaborate
- An interest in the sociology of development, food or inequalities will be appreciated
