ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AND HEAD OF DEPARTMENT (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for the Department of Human Nutrition matching the expectations of the UP 2025 Strategic Plan:

  • To pursue excellence in teaching and learning;
  • To impact on SA economic and social development;
  • To increase access, throughput and diversity;
  • To transform, revitalise and manage the Department in a sustainable manner.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A PhD in Human Nutrition or equivalent;
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa;
  • At least 12 accredited publications preferably in ISI journals
  • Five years teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Evidence of Masters and PhD e supervision;


RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • Experience in the teaching and learning of undergraduate students at an academic institution;
  • Experience in the teaching and learning of postgraduate students at an academic institution;
  • Experience in a management position;
  • A good track record of publications in accredited journals;
  • NRF Rating is preferred or evidence of being an established researcher;
  • Proven academic capabilities (postgraduate supervision, research, service learning and community engagement);
  • Strong leadership qualities.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

Candidates are expected to make a 10-minute verbal (no technology) presentation to the Faculty Recruitment and Selection Committee on his/her vision for the Department.

Although candidates will be appointed permanently as Associate Professor, the headship is a fixed-term appointment of four years. Preference will be given to the incumbent for re-appointment for a second term.
