Role Purpose
This post supports Rapid Response, Data-analytics and Methodology in the newly funded NIHR West Midlands Applied Research Collaboration, the continuation of the NIHR West Midlands CLAHRC ( https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/med/about/centres/clahrc/ ).
This role will be critical in delivering the theme's aims. The research fellow needs to have a background in behavioural sciences, preferably applied psychology. He/she will support the development of new projects and grant applications to investigate how to improve the delivery of health and social care - a topic sometimes described as 'implementation science'. The research fellow will contribute knowledge on factors influencing human behaviour and the design of interventions to improve care.
The research fellow will also have a large role in evaluations of such interventions. The research fellow will contribute to pilot studies and to supporting the protocols/grant applications for larger scale studies. We will be undertaking mixed methods research across health and social care settings, examining processes and outcomes of care. We have a particular interest in responding to service managers needs according to their time-table. See, for example, our recent evaluation of an intervention that aimed to improve uptake of influenza vaccines by front-line NHS staff [Ref: doi.org/10.1136/bmjqs-2019-009775]
This post will appeal to behavioural scientists with research expertise who have a passion for improving care. This role will enable the successful applicant to build on their research experience under the supervision of Prof Lilford. We plan to conduct studies using quantitative and qualitative techniques, including ethnography, as well as large database epidemiology. You will have an unrivalled opportunity to undertake impactful research that will support the NHS and social care at a time of rapid change. You will have an opportunity to build a career in applications of behavioural science to health and social care.
