We are looking for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on an exciting social science research project to examine older people's care and support networks in Indonesia. The project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). It involves the collection and comparative analysis of ethnographic, interview and household survey data from five communities across Indonesia. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of experienced researchers in the UK and Indonesia. While based at the University of Southampton, you will be expected to spend time in Indonesia for project activities and to be able to speak and read Indonesian.

Your primary responsibilities are to undertake comparative qualitative data analysis of ethnographic, interview and network data; carry out administrative tasks associated with the project; provide supervision and feedback to fieldstaff in the different Indonesian sites; disseminate findings by co-authoring publications and presenting results at conferences and impact events; contribute to data collection (esp. expert interviews).

You will have a PhD* qualification or equivalent professional qualification and experience in a social science discipline (e.g. social anthropology, sociology, gerontology, development studies, social policy, demography, epidemiology / public health, social psychology, social geography). You will have skills in qualitative data collection and qualitative data analysis and the ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in writing. Ability to speak and read Indonesian is essential. A research interest in one or several of the following subject areas is desirable: gerontology / population ageing, long-term care, dementia, informal support, social networks, social identity, gender, lifecourse, health, Indonesian studies.

* Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
