The ENGAGE (Engineering Augmented Degree) Programme is an extended degree programme comprising both mainstream and foundation modules. Students follow a structured 5-year curriculum. Additional Graphical Communication and Additional Mechanics are first-year engineering modules offered in the second year of the ENGAGE programme. Each of these modules are designed to run parallel with its corresponding mainstream module to develop conceptual understanding of key concepts in the discipline and to help students to acquire relevant problem-solving strategies, skills and knowledge for the modules.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

To lecture in the module Additional Graphical Communication in Semester 1 and Additional Mechanics in Semester 2, to refine and further develop the curriculum in each module, to do research on teaching and learning in both these disciplines. The teaching comprises one lecture of approximately 100 students, and three interactive discussion classes of approximately 50 students per discussion class, per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • An MEng degree from a university of which the undergraduate programme is recognised by the Washington Accord or is recognised by ECSA to be a substantial equivalent, or an equivalent Master's qualification
  • 2 years of teaching experience at a tertiary level
  • Experience in at least two of the following:
  • Engineering design and Graphical Communication
  • Mathematics, Chemistry and/or Physics education
  • Evidence of experience with active teaching and learning strategies
  • Curriculum and Materials development


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Above average IT knowledge and skills
  • Background in Mechanical engineering.


The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
