We are looking for a Facilities health and safety specialist with a strong knowledge base and diverse working experience of the risks associated with the provision of facilities management services within a complex organisation.

The post holder will be responsible for the development, implementation and review of all Facilities Services health and safety related hazard advice and guidance to ensure that the University maintains its compliance with the relevant regulations.

The main function of the role is to provide professional health and safety advice across the University but particularly to Estates and Facilities colleagues who have responsibility for the provision of Facilities management services such as, catering, residence management, in-house maintenance, security and grounds maintenance including associated building management risk etc. This will include the development of suitable training, setting competence standards for such services and support line managers fulfil their responsibilities in developing and monitoring safe working practices.

The post holder will also undertake audits and monitor activities including food safety to ensure the University achieves good practice and legal compliance.

As the Facilities specialist, the post holder will contribute to the portfolio of the Construction, Fire and Engineering safety team within the Health, Safety and Risk Directorate and will provide a comprehensive service to the University's Facilities led activities and work environments.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment of managing Facilities related risks in a variety of settings in the higher education and/or research sectors or similar environments. You will be a chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Health or working towards chartered status and have a degree or equivalent in a related discipline or significant experience within a Facilities Management function.

Significant practical experience of managing and leading facilities management activities and environments would also be a distinct advantage.
