As from the 1st of January 2020 the M&R Research Chair in Industry Leadership 4.0 is to be supported by Murray and Roberts Engineering (M&R) for implementation in the Department of Mining Engineering. We need to appoint a person with suitable industry and research experience in the position as Chair holder so as to lead and co-ordinate research and education activities identified within the M&R Chair.

Successful candidates should be committed to excellence in research related activities with specific reference to Mining Industry Leadership development for Emerging, Senior and Executive levels, with specific reference to adoption of new technology from a leadership perspective. Candidates will be expected to contribute and expand on futuristic leadership requirements and challenges. This to be done through the use and development of appropriate innovative models, so as to support and facilitate challenges associated with the 4IR and making Mining more globally competitive.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaching (Rt115/04 Appendix 2):

Co-ordinating of Mining and Industry related leadership development programmes for all levels nationally and internationally. Specific involvement in the undergraduate program will also form part of the teaching and learning responsibilities (application of new knowledge within the undergraduate program)
  • Research(Rt115/04 Appendix 2):

A proven track record of continuous and active involvement in Mining and related industry Engineering Leadership as well as an ability and verifiable track record of current and futuristic Leadership models for the Mining and related industries with leadership research the key driver.

Co-ordinating and managing various research projects as identified within the scope of the Leadership Chair

Sourcing of additional funding in terms of continuation of identified research projects where needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Senior Lecturer:
  • PhD in Engineering, Engineering/Technology Management, Innovation or related degree
  • BEng or BSc Eng preferably in Mining Engineering from a recognised institution
  • Relevance and experience in Engineering Innovation, Management and/or Leadership in Industry
  • Author/ co-author of ISI journal publication(s) (published and accepted)
  • Evidence of supervision at least Masters students
  • Publication of journal articles and conference publications

Associate Professor
  • Minimum requirements the same as for Senior Lecturer
  • Multiple commodity exposure in mining
  • Supervision of successfully completed Masters graduates
  • Recognised locally as a leader in your fieled and with some international recognition
  • Candidate must be well established as a teacher and researcher and/or industry leader in the field of leadership with at least some significant national scientific /scholarly recognition and standing


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Appropriate language and communication skills
  • Proven time management experience
  • Appropriate teaching and research skills


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Verifiable track record in Leadership Development programme (preferable to Mining):
    • development
    • education
    • application
    • outcome measurement principles advisory
  • Preference will be given to candidates with specialisation in leadership development programmes and initiatives within the mining and related industries environment
  • Professional registration within the field of expertise
  • Involvement in mining strategic leadership programmes/activities


The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
