The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the development of a pan-European early warning system of heat-related mortality within the European H2020 project Blue-Action (Artic Impact on weather and climate) has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 727852. The work will be performed within the Climate and Health Program (CLIMA), a multidisciplinary group including climate scientists, epidemiologists, statisticians and demographers. As such, the job position is an excellent opportunity to expand the background of the chosen candidate to new fields. Training and Experience

Ideal candidates must meet the following selection criteria:
  • PhD in mathematics, statistics, epidemiology, climate sciences or related areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in the modeling of climate impacts on human health.
  • High capacity in common programming languages, and particularly in R.
  • Previous experience with climate data and tools.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English, and capacity to write manuscripts and proposals.
  • Previous experience and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment, preferably within the areas of climate variability, predictability, modeling, impacts and services (see http://www.heathealth.eu/6_team.html ).


The contract is offered for a two-year period, but depending on the candidate's proven capacity, skills, previous expertise and top-notch publications track record, the position might be extended. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. The job offer will be closed as soon as a suitable candidate is selected, and the position will preferably start anytime after October 1st, 2019.
