The University Library Basel (UB Basel) is the scientific information center of the University of Basel and cantonal library of the canton of Basel-Stadt with 30'000 users. With a stock of more than four million books and e-books, subject databases and journals, it is one of the larger scientific libraries in Switzerland. The UB Basel has an extensive historical inventory and numerous special collections.

The inkjet project is a development project of the UB Basel, which has the goal of establishing a validated approach for the restoration of quantities of inkjet damage to the holdings of UB Basel. This also includes the development of a conservation strategy for dealing with ink abuse, which also includes preventive measures.

Your tasks:
  • Autonomous implementation of subprojects: among other things the evaluation of methods for the individual and quantity handling of inkjet damaged archive and library material based on the analysis of samples, the investigation and documentation of extensive stocks and the implementation and application of selected measures of preventive and stabilizing conservation and restoration.
  • Representation of project management


Your profile:
  • University degree in Conservation / Restoration or equivalent (Master's degree)
  • Interest in and experience with the damage picture "Inkfrass" as well as interdisciplinary quantity preservation projects
  • Experience in book and paper restoration
  • Focus on Instrumental Analysis / Chemistry (demonstrated by thesis, preliminary study or training or focus in the study)
  • Experience in and pleasure in scientific work, willingness to publish
  • Good English knowledge
  • Solution-oriented and structured way of working
  • You are an initiative, flexible and team-oriented personality with independent working methods and high personal responsibility
