Job Details

Main duties:
  • Developing education students' Geography teaching skills;
  • Developing and evaluating teaching and learning materials for Geography;
  • Participating in the development and assessment of teaching and learning opportunities (practical);
  • Research and publication in Geography education;
  • Participating in social impact projects and rendering appropriate services to the University and teaching community.
  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules;
  • Research and publication in chosen areas of specialisation;
  • Supervising and co-supervising postgraduate students.


Job Requirements:
  • A relevant teaching qualification;
  • Geography at third year university level, or an equivalent qualification;
  • Knowledge of geography education in the intermediate phase and the FET phase of schooling;
  • Thorough knowledge of current education policies, trends and contexts;
  • Appropriate school teaching experience;
  • Ability to teach and assess in one official language and a good working knowledge of a second official language.


Senior Lecturer:
  • A relevant PhD degree;
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Experience of teaching geography education in higher education;
  • Experience of supervision and co-supervision postgraduate students.


Lecturer:
  • A relevant master's degree;
  • Proof of registration or proposal for a PhD;
  • Experience of teaching Geography education in higher education;
  • Proposed schedule of publications;
  • Demonstration of potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Potential to supervise or co-supervise postgraduate students;
  • Willingness to continue studies.
  • 'n Toepaslike onderwyskwalifikasie;
  • Geografie minstens tot op derdejaar universiteitsvlak, of'n gelykwaardige kwalifikasie;
  • Kennis van Geografieonderwys in die intermediêre fase en VOO-fase op skool;
  • Diepgaande kennis van huidige onderwysbeleide, tendense enkontekste;
  • Toepaslike skoolonderrig ervaring;
  • In staat daartoe wees om in een van die drie amptelike tale van die Wes-kaap klas te gee en te assesseer en 'n werkende kennis van 'n tweede amptelike taal.


Recommendation:
  • Experience in and /or knowledge of social sciences education;
  • Experience in and or knowledge of technology aided Geography education;
  • Sound knowledge of national and international trends in Geography Education;
  • A proven interest in curriculum studies in general;
  • An interest in and knowledge of Environmental Education;
  • Knowlerdge of isi-Xhosa is a strong recommendation.
