Job Details

This post is an excellent opportunity for a medical statistician with a particular interest in randomised controlled trials to develop their career and join the statistics group at Bristol Randomised Trials Collaboration (BRTC) - a successful UKCRC-registered Trials Unit and part of the newly formed Bristol Trials Centre. The main purpose of the job is to contribute to BRTC's portfolio of high-quality clinical research, particularly the statistical aspects of the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of phase III RCTs.

Under the supervision of a senior statistician, you will use your skills to help design the statistical aspects of trials and contribute to BRTC grant applications. You will also be involved in the conduct, analysis and interpretation of the statistical aspects of funded trials and will write up the results for publication in high impact journals. Support will be provided by senior statisticians and you will be encouraged to attend appropriate training courses.

It is expected that applicants will have a Masters degree or PhD in medical statistics or closely related discipline and experience of conducting analyses of substantial datasets. Experience of working on phase III RCTs is not essential; however, you should have a demonstrable interest in developing an academic career in applying statistical methods to the analysis of RCTs data. Bristol Medical School offers excellent professional development through the short course programme in research methods. Candidates will need enthusiasm, excellent numeracy and writing skills and to be keen to work within multi-disciplinary teams to develop and conduct high quality research. The School has an excellent track record of attracting research funding. If, in the longer term, the post-holder is interested in applying for a fellowship to pursue their own research interests, members of BRTC and the wider department can provide expert guidance and support. (This vacancy has arisen because the previous post-holder secured an NIHR Doctoral Fellowship).

This is an open ended position and the successful candidate will be appointed at either Research Associate (grade I) or Senior Research Associate (grade J) level depending on skills and experience.
