The Department of Economics at the University of Southampton is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work in the project A Unified Approach to Measuring the Costs of Violent Crime Risk funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.

The project aims at developing a unified framework to assess the costs of violent crime risk in the UK and will employ the use of advanced econometric techniques and the analysis of big data to measure the impact of violent crime on individuals' objective and subjective outcomes. The post offers an exciting opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in a vibrant Department.

The start date for this position is 1st February 2020. The successful applicant will work for 18 months under the direction of Dr Brendon McConnell and Professor Corrado Giulietti.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Economics, or be close to completion of their PhD, and have experience in fields such as the economics of crime, health economics and labour economics. The successful candidate will also have strong quantitative background and experience in the econometric analysis of big data. Knowledge of UK datasets is desirable.

Applications for a Research Fellow position will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
