Job Details

The University is proud of the impact of its research, with our researchers tackling some of society's most pressing challenges. We have a strong tradition of enabling researchers to commercialise their research through enterprise, licensing and spinouts. The University is ranked as the top UK University for consultancy income and has a number of highly successful enterprise units. We have created more than 28 spinout companies since 2000, three of whom have been floated on the stock market and the University is a founding member of the SETsquared Partnership which has been rated the top university business incubator in the world.

Research and Innovation Services is looking to expand on its existing technology transfer, consultancy and enterprise capability to increase its agility in concluding deal flow. We are therefore looking for an Enterprise Contracts Officer to join our successful team to support the review, analysis, drafting and negotiation of contract documents for the management of our enterprise activities and intellectual property portfolio.

You will be responsible for the contract management support to a diverse portfolio of consultancy projects and our specialist enterprise units. You will also have responsibility for due diligence checks and rights clearance prior to commercialisation of the University's intellectual property. You will possess commercial acumen, pragmatism and a good understanding of commercial contracts to enable deals to be concluded in a timely manner whilst looking out for the University's best interests. Commercially astute and technologically aware, you will work with world-class researchers, entrepreneurs, global partners and investors to help shape and develop strong mutually beneficial commercialisation deals.

You will have strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills, be well-organised with the ability to multi-task and to work well as part of a dedicated team. You will be a self-starter and enjoy the challenge of making things happen in a fast-moving environment. If you have the relevant expertise and experience with a keen interest to support cutting-edge enterprise activity and the commercialisation of research outputs, then we would like to hear from you.

For an informal discussion, please contact: Tony Hill, IP Commercialisation Legal Manager on: 02380 598795 or email: A.A.Hill@soton.ac.uk .

Interviews to be held week commencing 18th November 2019.
