Job Details

The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a fixed-term part-time (0.6FTE) Lecturer in Italian from 1 February 2020 to 31 January 2021.

The Department of Italian is an integral part of a dynamic and forward-looking School of Modern Languages in the Faculty of Arts. The Department is at the forefront of those in the UK able to offer a range of modules from the medieval to the contemporary, encompassing cultural studies, film, history, and literature. Italian is studied by highly qualified and strongly motivated undergraduates either as a mandatory part of a Single Honours degree, a Joint Honours degree with another one or two modern languages, or a Joint Honours degree with another subject.

The successful candidate will be able to offer research-led teaching and contribute to the existing range of units offered by the Italian Department, and an ability to teach courses on Dante and medieval Italian culture may be a particular asset. The ability to teach Italian language and translation at a range of undergraduate levels is also required. The successful candidate will support the Department and School in the development of innovative teaching methods and materials and the dissemination of good teaching practice, and will make an appropriate administrative contribution to the life of the School (as an academic personal tutor, for example).

The successful candidate will have native or near-native competence in Italian and English, and is likely to have, or be about to obtain, a relevant postgraduate qualification (PhD), as well as possessing some experience of teaching in the HE sector.

Interviews will be held in the week commencing 25th November 2019.

Informal enquiries should be directed to the Director of Teaching, Dr Tristan Kay at Tristan.Kay@bristol.ac.uk

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
