Full time starting salary is normally in the range £27,511 to £30,046. With potential progression once in post to £33,797 a year.

Fixed term for 9 months

Job Purpose

• To assist in research on neutrophil biology and ocular fibrosis providing research support for projects and research groups.

• To generate preliminary data for major funding application.

• Work within specified research grants and/or projects

• Operate within area of specialism

• Contribute to publications

Main Duties

• To assist in research on neutrophil biology and ocular fibrosis providing research support for projects and research groups.

• To generate preliminary data for major funding application.

• Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews

• Analyse research data as directed

• Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters

• Develop or adapt techniques, models and methods for neutrophil biology, ocular surface scarring and drug delivery

• Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research

• Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines

• Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research including ordering and receipting consumables

• Providing administrative support in organising meetings including room-booking, keeping minutes and summarising action points

Person Specification

• Degree or equivalent in relevant subject area

• Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques including neutrophil phenotyping and function, primary ocular cell culture, immunohistochemistry, RNA extraction PCR and flow cytometry

• Good understanding of ocular biology especially related to cornea and conjunctival inflammation and fibrosis

• Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively

• Ability to access and organise resources successfully
