Introduction

The Aga Khan University (AKU) is partnering with the University of California, San Francisco - a globally well-known Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research - a stem cell research program at Aga Khan University. The Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM) is a state-of-the-art facility, designed to undertake cutting edge research on stem cells and regenerative medicine in the area of non-communicable diseases which are prevalent in the developing world; nurture the next generation of researchers and clinicians; and create a multidisciplinary collaborative environment that encourages innovation.

AKU-CRM is inviting applications from outstanding and ambitious candidates with experience in communications including media relations.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, CRM, Manager Communications will apply best practice and experience to build and support internal and external communications including media relations that advances the strategic priorities of AKU-CRM. Specifically, the Manager will be responsible for:
  • working closely with the Director CRM to understand the issues, goals and objectives of CRM
  • developing, implementing and evaluating an internal and external strategic communications plan for CRM that is congruent with the global communications strategy
  • creating relevant messaging for internal and external audiences that meet business goals of CRM
  • building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; including media to meet the communications objectives of CRM.
  • working as an integral member of the CRM team, and building strong working relations with other stakeholders to deliver communication campaigns that support the goals and strategies of the Centre
  • conducting communications stakeholder analysis and risk assessments
  • working closely with the marketing team to develop and execute complimentary media campaigns and strengthen AKU-CRM media relations
  • developing tracking measures that monitor the impact and performance of tactical initiatives and assess the key performance metrics
  • preparing presentations for internal and external communications as required
  • contributing to and working on key strategic projects and assignments as designated by the Director, CRM.


Requirements

Candidates must have:
  • a Master's degree with minimum of five years of experience in designing and implementing effective communications strategies
  • a Bachelor's in communications, public relations or journalism with minimum of eight years of experience may also apply
  • proven ability to design and execute communications plans with measureable results
  • demonstrated experience with effective media relations
  • strong and effective written and oral communication skills in English and Urdu, with the ability to write for a variety of audiences
  • experience of working in large, complex organizations with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • solid demonstration of a client-centered approach to service
  • ability to assess issues and their impact internally and externally, including effective crisis communications and experience in providing sound communications advice and support in response to difficult situations
  • experience in change communications and digital communications
  • strong working knowledge of stakeholder and community engagement
  • experience with event communications and management, good project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks
  • understanding and strong application of best communication principles and practices
  • comfortable with budget planning and tracking
  • strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • demonstrated ability in being a strong team player, multi-tasking and results orientated
  • ability to think innovatively and translate strategic thinking into action plans and output
  • meticulous attention to details, be able to take initiative and work independently with minimum supervision
  • possess sound computer literacy particularly in MS Office, (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), email (Outlook), Content Management System (CMS) or other relevant media software.
