Job Details

Northumbria University is a thriving, research-rich university with a global reputation for academic excellence and a clear and ambitious vision. The University was the UK's largest riser in research power in REF 2014. We have developed high-performing collaborations and partnerships at home and overseas for research and impact purposes.

International Relations is part of the Department of Social Sciences, which has grown in recent years and currently has almost 60 academic staff, across five disciplines: International Relations and Politics, Criminology, Sociology, Media, and International Development. Across the Department we have just over 1,000 students, which include a community of 60 PGR students, with a further 12 doctoral studentships currently advertised. Our research strengths, in terms of international relations, lie in social and political activism and volunteering for social justice, democracy and politics beyond Westminster, global governance, international development and environmental sustainability.

The University is seeking to support its strength in Social Sciences with the appointment of a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in International Relations. We invite applications from outstanding academics with an excellent research profile who can contribute to the development of International Relations at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This includes developing the existing BA (Honours) International Relations and Politics and postgraduate programmes.

The appointee will contribute to and develop the research profile of International Relations at Northumbria, in line with our REF success and the University Vision. Applications from candidates with expertise in the politics of security and migration are particularly welcome.
