Northumbria University seeks to appoint a full-time Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing. We seek to appoint a candidate with an excellent research portfolio in practice-based work in any field of Creative Writing, who will make a strong contribution to our submission to REF 2021, and who has strong experience of teaching Creative Writing at all levels to postgraduate. The appointee will work within the wider English and Creative Writing group in the Humanities Department.

The Humanities Department is focused strongly on excellence in research and teaching. We have a commitment to outward-facing work, as reflected in community engagement and knowledge exchange with different partners including New Writing North. Our Department brings together 80 academic staff and 800 students in American Studies, History, English Literature, English Language and Creative Writing. Undergraduate students in American Studies, History and English come to us with the highest average entry qualifications for these subjects across the modern university sector. Our Literature and Creative Writing Undergraduate degree, our Creative Writing MA and our PhD programme in Creative Writing are well established.

The English and Creative Writing group develops its research within a vibrant interdisciplinary context that is underpinned by the Institute for the Humanities, working on important themes such as medical humanities, environmental humanities, activism, mobility and diaspora, American Studies, identity and heritage, creative, practice-led research, and gender and sexuality.

As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in English and Creative Writing you will work as part of multi-disciplinary teams, with responsibility for contributing to an exceptional student experience through the delivery of teaching, research, business and enterprise engagement activity. You will actively engage in research and related activities, which will inform curriculum development and delivery and raise the profile of the Department, Faculty and University nationally and internationally.
