Job Details

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is passionate about the principles and applications of Science and Technology in all its forms and strives to be excellent in research, teaching and innovation.

Working within the Department of Applied Sciences you will provide expertise in the area of Forensic Biology, to further enhance research, teaching and entrepreneurial activities.

Forensic Science is an established aspect of the Department's research and teaching portfolio, with state-of-the-art facilities for teaching, including recently refurbished, well equipped laboratories and a crime house facility. The department has a wealth of research allied to the forensic area, including the areas of biochemistry and molecular biology, microscopy suite (including fluorescence and laser capture) and tissue culture, complemented by high performance computing and dedicated facilities for metabolomics, proteomics and genomics (including MySeq and PacBio sequencing platforms). Our research-informed teaching supports all of our CSoFS accredited undergraduate and post-graduate Forensic Science programmes. Our Forensic Science Unit (see: https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/research/research-areas/allied-health-professions-and-nursing/forensic-science-unit/ ) is building a strong research profile, following the Departments strong contribution to the Universities' REF2014 submission, that helped to place Northumbria in the top 50 Universities for research power.

As a senior Academic colleague, you will assist the Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor to maintain, enhance and improve the University's national and international reputation in your academic field. You must demonstrate continuing academic attainment and achievement and provide academic leadership (of your subject and associated colleagues), through active contribution to your discipline and to the life and work of the Faculty and the wider University. This will include contributing to significant change within practice, the discipline, profession and/or community at regional, national and international level.

To be successful in this role you will be doctorally qualified, have externally recognised research outputs of a quality that are internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour, and demonstrable success in securing research funding. You should also demonstrate academic leadership experience and strong standing with external bodies and networks in your field.

Applications from candidates with an expertise in forensic identification, such as forensic genetics, are particularly welcome.
