Job Details

We are looking for an experienced qualitative researcher to join the multidisciplinary CELS team in the Faculty of Medicine led by Lucassen and Fenwick. Our cross academic unit research group focusses on exploring the ethical, legal and social issues arising from the introduction of novel technologies into clinical practice and their impact on wider society.

The post holder will work closely with an established Senior Research Fellow on a Wellcome Trust funded study entitled 'Facilitating ethical preparedness in genomic medicine', the EPPiGEN project. This is a collaborative award in Humanities and Social Science held with Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) and as such will require close liaison with researchers and the leads across the two settings: Professors Anneke Lucassen (Southampton) and Bobbie Farsides (BSMS). The overall purpose of the research will be to develop an understanding of the concept of ethical preparedness through the engagement of patients, practitioners and policy makers in the issues that the concept raises. For more details about the project and related research, please visit our website: www.soton.ac.uk/cels . The post holder will contribute to the developing programme of work and will be encouraged to pursue areas of particular interest so there is scope for building on an existing portfolio of work.

Applicants will need to be educated to PhD level; be able to demonstrate their ability to organise high quality research; their ability to engage in conceptual thinking; meet deadlines and work with a team of researchers.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

Full/Part-time - Fixed-term for 3 years
