Part-time, fixed-term position available up to 0.4 FTE until the 31st December 2020 with possibility of extension

This position will be based at either Whyalla, Port Augusta or Port Lincoln, with regular travel between the sites required

The Adelaide Rural Clinical School (ARCS) Director of Clinical Training will be responsible for the coordination of the hospital intern training program where doctors in training are based in the Whyalla hospital and general practice placements within the region.

The ARCS Director of Clinical Training will establish collaborative clinical training for prevocational medical staff in local hospitals and communities, including supporting Rural Generalist training developments in the region and provide supervision, mentoring and support for doctors in training. Through liaisons with Specialist and General Practice training Colleges, Health Services and other organisations they will play a vital role with developing training requirements, supervision and trainee preparation for practice.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for the accreditation processes for junior doctor training in local hospitals and GP clinics and will provide reports to ARCS, external funders and accreditation bodies as required. They will also contribute to the broader ARCS agenda of recruiting, preparing and mentoring the next generation of rural health professionals, including medical students and junior doctors based in the region.

To be successful at Lecturer, Level B you will need:
  • Current unrestricted Medical Registration with AHPRA and a postgraduate qualification in Medicine (FRACGP/FACRRM or other clinical specialty).
  • Current clinical credentialing and regular involvement in clinical practice in a remote or rural setting with demonstrated experience in medical education or equivalent experience in clinical teaching.
  • Ability to coordinate an accredited education program in line with the Australian Junior Doctor Curriculum Framework and engage others in teaching doctors-in-training.
  • Capacity to work with others to expand rural prevocational and vocational training opportunities in South Australia and demonstrated understanding of rural practice and the issues affecting rural medical practitioners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with Aboriginal staff, students and health professionals to close the gap in health and educational outcomes.


In addition to the above, to be successful at Senior Lecturer, Level C, you will also need:
  • A PhD qualification or significant progress toward a PhD in a relevant area.
  • Experience in course coordination and the management of teaching and learning resources, and staffing.
  • Experience in the development of innovative teaching methods and curriculum.
  • A record of scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant discipline area.
