Lecturer

Lecturer

Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate lectures and practicals in the area of Geoinformatics with a focus on Cartography, Geodesy and Spatial Statistics;
- Developing and updating undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in Geoinformatics;
- Contributing to the Geoinformatics research agenda within the University;
- Building capacity among staff and students to expand and extend the University's capacity for Geoinformatics research;
- Establishing a sustainable research funding stream to support the above endeavour;
- Conducting independent and collaborative publishable research in high-impact journals;
- Establishing collaborations with academics nationally and internationally;
- Participating in the administration and general management of the Department.
Minimum Requirements:
- Registered for a PhD or a recent PhD in Geoinformatics, Geomatics or Surveying, or a PhD in a closely related discipline with an appropriate qualification that includes Cartography, Geodesy and Spatial Statistics;
- Evidence of teaching experience;
- Registered or qualify for registration as Professional with the South African Geomatics Council.
Required Competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes):
- Innovative thinking;
- Desire to develop and grow;
- The potential to lead a strong research entity.
Added Advantages and Preferences:
- Tertiary teaching experience;
- Professional working experience;
- Teaching and research expertise aligned with the requirements in the Department;
- Proven publication record that demonstrates his/her ability to independently conduct quality Geoinformatics research;
- Experience in academic administration;
- Community engagement.
