Job Details
We are offering an opportunity for a 24-month post-doctoral at Geosciences Institute of University of São Paulo - IGc-USP (São Paulo, Brazil).
The project aims to reconstruct the South American Summer Monsoon during the last two thousand years by using stable isotope and trace-element geochemistry data in speleothems precisely dated by U/Th method.
This position is part of a research project jointly funded by FAPESP/Brazil and NSF/USA that aims to reconstruct the climate in South America.
The researcher will have access to laboratory facilities at USP to perform the stable isotope analyses, with the possibility for further U-series dating laboratory work with a collaborating institution in USA or China.
The candidate must have obtained the PhD degree in the last three years, and be fluent in English.
Previous experience in paleoclimate studies based on geochemistry of speleothems is desirable.
Selection will be based on the applicant's CV analysis, and potential contribution to the project.
The PD fellowship will be granted by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of BRL 7,373 monthly or about USD 22,400 per year (net wage, tax free). It also includes USD 3500 to general research expenses.
