Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor / Professor (One Post)

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules;
  • Supervising Honours, Masters and PhD students;
  • Conducting research and publishing articles in leading accredited journals;
  • Raising funds to support existing research programmes and/or initiate new ones;
  • Academic administration.


Minimum Requirements:

Lecturer:
  • A PhD degree in Agricultural Economics or Agricultural Extension;
  • At least two years' teaching and/or research experience in programmes relevant to the Department's offerings.

Senior Lecturer (Same as for Lecturer, plus):
  • At least three years' teaching and/or research experience in programmes relevant to the Department's offerings;
  • Evidence of publications in accredited journals relevant to the Department's offerings;
  • Evidence of successful supervision/co-supervision of Masters students or mentoring of staff.

Associate Professor:
  • A PhD degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development or Rural Sociology;
  • At least five years' teaching and research experience relevant to the Department's offerings;
  • Evidence of publications in accredited journals relevant to the Department's offerings
  • Evidence of successful supervision/co-supervision of Masters students;
  • Recognition by peers as a researcher with academic standing;
  • A comprehensive international publication record;
  • A record of collaboration with local and international scientists and experience leading joint research projects;
  • Proven experience in fundraising for research.

Professor (Same as for Associate Professor, plus):
  • At least eight years' teaching and research experience relevant to the Department's offerings;
  • Evidence of successful supervision/co-supervision of Masters and PhD students;
  • Proven graduation record of PhD students;
  • Recognition as a scientist with substantial international standing;
  • Evidence of designing and implementing innovative curriculum content.


Added Advantages and Preferences (At all levels):
  • The ability to develop a world class research programme;
  • Able to demonstrate innovation in teaching, experience in blended learning delivery and the use of technology for improving learner throughput;
  • Able to demonstrate innovation and present new ideas on how to expand the research capacity of partner institutions in Africa in the relevant field.


The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
