The Associate Scientist, Data Science works within the BioAnalytical Team at Precision Biosciences focused on the development of genome-edited allogeneic CAR-T therapeutics. The incumbent will play a lead role in the identification and implementation of existing and/or novel algorithms, analytical techniques and computational procedures to mine, clean, and interpret a wide variety of data derived from genomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and cellular phenotypic methods. This team member will be a part of our broader CMC organization which aims to drive technical excellence for the successful development of Precision Biosciences Cell and Gene Therapy Products, including allogeneic CAR-T cells, AAV viral vectors, and Lipid Nanoparticle-Encapsulated mRNA spanning a broad range of indications in immuno-oncology, infectious disease, and rare genetic disease.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify and utilize appropriate feature selection and dimensionality reduction techniques to support data analysis
  • Identify and implement appropriate computational pipelines using existing tools to assist research groups in streamlining data analysis
  • Identify appropriate checks and analytics to ensure accurate and consistent data analysis
  • Assist with building and overseeing internal databases


  • Expertise in supervised and unsupervised machine learning (including Deep Learning) applied to different datasets, feature selection and dimensionality reduction techniques
  • Experience with -omics data processing and analysis
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts in immunology and genetics
  • Strong skills in statistical analysis
  • Ability to work as part of a team collaboratively using inquisitiveness and active listening
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to present data and analysis to experts and non-experts alike
  • Experience with data visualization
  • Strong experience with R (Bioconductor, etc.), Python (Tensorflow, Scikit-learn), MATLAB

  • Command-line, bash experience
  • Database concepts (design and use)
  • Visualization tools (e.g., Tableau)

Education/ Experience
  • Successful candidate should have an advanced degree (M.S. and/or Ph.D.) in computer science, statistics, computational biology or similar with 0-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent contributions
  • This role is envisioned to initially be an individual contributor, but may eventually supervise a small team of 2-3 direct reports

Travel Requirements
  • This position requires little to no travel.

  • This position is located at the main headquarters in Durham, NC, and is required to physically be and work in the office, in order to be most effective, and at managers discretion.
