The Vice President of Human Resources (VPHR) is an executive level position to provide strategic human resource leadership, management and development for Aga Khan University to position the institution for the fulfilment of its mission and to realize the audacious ambition that emanates from the vision of the Founder and Chancellor, His Highness the Aga Khan.

The University continues to grow geographically and programmatically, adding new disciplines and knowledge. The key responsibilities of the VPHR will be to build and lead a cohesive human resource team and culture across the University' s geographic sites, colleges and programmes. S/he will focus on providing proactive leadership and creating an internationally harmonised environment through the development of best practices, policies and programmes in key areas like recruitment, retention, promotion, employee relations, benefits and compensation.

The VPHR will particularly engage in organisational development and the creation of effective training programmes tied to institutional priorities. S/he will assure that human resource strategies and initiatives are aligned with, and support the strategic and operating objectives of AKU, and its academic and health services goals as it further expands and develops.

Responsibilities

The VPHR will have full responsibility for the effectiveness of all human resources plans, programmes, strategy, leadership and management across Aga Khan University.

This will include all traditional human resource activities: employee relations. compensation and benefits, management and staff development, training, staffing and recruiting, performance evaluation and organisation design as they support the academy and the hospital operations.

A critical role will be to effectively develop AKU's leadership capabilities and overall organisational training, development, and succession planning. The VPHR will play a central role in the promotion of a high-performance culture throughout the University.

The appointee will be responsible for strategic and operational oversight of all activities within the employment lifecycle. S/he will ensure appropriate systems, policies and procedures are in place to deliver reliable, consistent and efficient human resource services across borders.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be an accomplished HR leader with experience in a complex, multi-site organisation, ideally one with a mobile work force operating in multiple, diverse countries and cultures. Personal experience of living and working in multiple countries, with exposure to the developing world and to Muslim culture in particular will be preferred.
