PERCEPTIONS is a multi-partner, multi-national project that has been funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme to identify and understand the narratives and (mis)perceptions of the EU abroad. The project will conduct research on the narratives and the myths that are circulating about the EU in countries West- and Central Mediterranean area. Based on these research insights, the consortium will develop a framework model including policy recommendations, action plans and a policy. The Northumbria Social Computing (NorSC) lab in the Department of Computer & Information sciences at Northumbria University will play a key role in PERCEPTIONS, leading aspects of work in social media data collection and analytics and contributing to qualitative aspects of the research including interview and focus group studies.

We are seeking two Senior Research Assistants (SRAs) to work on the PERCPETIONS project at Northumbria:
  • SRA1 (Social Computing) with a technical background in social media data collection, analysis and interpretation
  • SRA2 (New Media & Migration) with a background in qualitative research and with experience of working in the context of new and social media and/or in migration studies

In both cases, you will have a PhD (or one that is close to completion) in a relevant field. Since the research conducted across PERCEPTIONS is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary; you will have demonstrable experience and interest to work in multi-disciplinary teams. Excellent communication skills, as well as familiarity with a range of desktop publishing is essential. Experience and familiarity with EU research funding would be beneficial.

Each post is fixed-term for 24 months in the first instance.
