Job Details

Influence the experience of millions of students.

At the Office for Students (OfS), we`re committed to ensuring that every student in England enjoys the best possible higher education experience. Seeing to it that students from all backgrounds are receiving value-for-money and can access, succeed in and progress from higher education.

Our Teaching Excellence and Student Experience (TESE) directorate develops and implements OfS funding, student welfare and a range of other policies on behalf of student interests. As part of this, the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) promotes excellence in higher education and informs students to make the best choice for them, by rating universities and colleges across the country.

As one of our team of five TEF Managers your achievements will make an impact nationally, as you work with us to ensure the best possible experience for students. Joining this relatively new initiative also gives you the opportunity to help shape its future direction, where you`ll call on a range of skills and experience, developing them further across a variety of responsibilities.

All our TEF Manager roles involve relationship management with various stakeholders, such as universities, colleges, students, review panels and other external agencies, delegating and co-ordinating work across teams and developing different aspects of the programme. Together, they`ll lead, develop and set the direction of a team of approximately 20, achieving this through regular management meetings.

The TEF Manager remit also includes leading on specific projects, which will be established on appointment. So, if you join us, you`ll be allocated projects best suited to your skillset. These could include co-ordinating a consultation exercise through face-to-face engagement and events and analysing hundreds of responses. Alternatively, you might be involved in recruiting review panels of higher education experts and student representatives from across the UK, and co-ordinating the development of systems and processes required for them to carry out their work.

You may currently be working in education or with a public sector organisation, managing projects or with responsibility for policy development, process design and developing ideas through to delivery. Whatever your professional background or experience, in this role you`ll act as direct line manager for two or three colleagues, so you must have the ability to manage people. You should also be adaptable, flexible and able to multi-task. We also look for strong writing skills, and the ability to analyse and communicate complex information to a range of stakeholders.

Location: Bristol based, but we do offer flexible working arrangements. It also involves some travel to London, and around the country for events and panel meetings.

With us you can expect a good work/life balance as well as a genuinely harmonious and collaborative environment, supported by a competitive benefits package. We`ll support your future aspirations too, with training and development opportunities.

Interviewing date: 4th December 2019
