Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join the Haematological Oncology group of Dr Francesco Forconi working alongside Professor Mark Cragg and Dr Sean Lim in the Antibody and Vaccine Group.

The successful candidate will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Immunology/Cell Biology. Applications from EU candidates are welcome. Knowledge and laboratory experience of tumour and/or normal B cell biology is essential. Knowledge and laboratory experience in human cellular immunology techniques including Flow cytometry, cell sorting and single cell analysis, co-cultures, ELISAs is also essential. Knowledge on follicular lymphoma, lectins and antibody generation/manipulation is desirable.

You will generate and develop antibodies and contribute to the investigation of the mechanisms of disease mediated by the interaction of the B-cell receptor and lectins to treat follicular lymphoma.

You will be a well-motivated scientist, capable of developing your own research project as well as a good team-player with excellent communication skills. You will join an expanding team of scientists and clinicians with a strong grounding in cancer B-cell immunology, genomics, signalling and therapeutics. You will also supervise junior staff and students and will be expected to contribute to the academic development and enhancement of the quality of research and enterprise of the Haematology Oncology Group within the Faculty, nationally and internationally.

This post will be based within the Cancer Research UK Centre and Centre for Cancer Immunology at the Southampton General Hospital campus, occupying modern, well-equipped, purpose-built laboratories, with support from clinical and laboratory-based colleagues.

The position is funded by Cancer Research UK and is full-time, fixed term for 1 year, renewable for a further 2 years pending progress.

* Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
