Assistant doctoral student 60%

The Department of Classical Studies encompasses the archaeological, philological and historical disciplines of the Faculty of Humanities, which are concerned with the study of antiquity. On February 1, 2021 or by appointment, a position as an assistant (doctoral candidate) in ancient history is to be filled.

Your tasks
The tasks of the assistant include, in particular, the academic qualification at the University of Basel through the dissertation, participation in teaching (2 semester hours per week), academic self-administration and cooperation in the care of students and the scientific projects of the elderly History.

Your profile
A prerequisite is a degree in ancient history or a related subject, completed with a master's degree or equivalent (licentiate, master's degree), as well as work on your own dissertation project.
In order to successfully write the dissertation, a sound knowledge of basic aspects of ancient history is required. These include in-depth knowledge of the structuring of a written work, the ability to clearly define a research question and to record the state of research, how to deal with sources, criticism of sources and finding relevant literature.

The position is limited to one year for doctoral students with the possibility of an extension for another three years. The conditions of employment follow the guidelines of the university.
