The Basel Graduate School of History (BGSH) is offering two start-of-thesis scholarships for a period of one year (Start of scholarship: April 1, 2021).

Your tasks

The scholarships must be used to support doctoral students during the start of their thesis phase. During the first six months, scholarship holders must apply for a grant for their thesis project with the Swiss National Fund for Scientific Research or another funding institution.

Your profile

The scholarships are intended for students who have a Masters or equivalent in history and who wish to do research in one of the following fields: medieval history, modern history, contemporary history, history of European history. 'East, African history, Jewish history, world history. As an active member of the BGSH, doctoral students must demonstrate great motivation, the ability to carry out an original research project that takes place over several years, and finally become personally involved in debates. scientists inside and outside the Department of History. We offer

The Basel Graduate School of History offers a structured doctoral program in historical sciences in an intellectually stimulating environment. BGSH doctoral students benefit from an intense intellectual debate, research workshops and seminars and a dense interdisciplinary and international network. In addition, the BGSH offers you other instruments to continue your doctoral project and supports the realization of own scientific events. The scholarship is endowed with CHF 30,000 and will be paid in two installments (with intermediate evaluation).
