Job Details

The Basel Graduate School of History (BGSH) accepts applications for two one-year start-up scholarships (scholarship type: April 1, 2021).

Your tasks

The scholarships provide support during the initial phase of your doctorate. In the first six months of the scholarship period, you will prepare a funding application with which you can apply to the Swiss National Science Foundation or another funding institution for further funding for your doctoral project.

Your profile

The scholarships are aimed at students who have a master's degree or an equivalent degree in history and who would like to do a doctorate in one of the following areas: History of the Middle Ages, History of the Early Modern Age, Modern and Modern History, Contemporary History, Eastern European History, African history, Jewish history, global history. A high level of motivation is expected to become an active member of the BGSH and to carry out an independent, multi-year research project. The Basel Graduate School of History offers structured graduate studies in an intellectually stimulating environment. Doctoral students at the BGSH benefit from the close scientific exchange, joint workshops and research colloquia, a wide-ranging international and interdisciplinary network as well as offers to support their research activities and to organize their own scientific events. The scholarship is endowed with CHF 30,000 and is paid out in two tranches (with an interim evaluation).
