Clinical Anatomy covers all aspects of anatomy and its practical application to the diagnosis and treatment of disease conditions. In South Africa, the utilisation of human material falls under the legal and statutory requirements of the National Health Act of 2003 and as such is stringently controlled. Clinical Anatomy is involved in the training of undergraduate students in all disciplines at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), as well as postgraduate students (including MMed programmes).

Duties

Reporting to the Head of the Division, the incumbent's role will include:

Teaching:
  • Undergraduate students - responsible for developing study material and the facilitation of learning opportunities to MBChB,
    Allied Health and BSc Human Life Sciences students. Advising and contributing to related teaching and research in undergraduate curricula.
  • Postgraduate students - training and supervising BSc (Hons), and MSc students; conceptualising and supervising research
    projects in the Science and Educational research of Human Anatomy;
  • Application of digital technologies in teaching and research.

Research:
  • Expanding research collaborations;
  • Participating in and managing research within a project or team context;
  • Securing funding to support relevant research;
  • Supervising postgraduate students and increasing postgraduate training;

Leadership, management and service delivery:
  • Mentorship and empowerment of students and junior staff members;
  • Governance of the body donation programme;
  • Engaging with relevant stakeholders;
  • Actively participating in community outreach and engagement projects;
  • Committed to staying abreast of technological advances in teaching and research;
  • Participating on faculty committees.


Job requirements
  • Master's degree in Anatomy, or similar, with anatomy as a major component;
  • Expertise and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the relevant fields with an interdisciplinary approach;
  • Evidence of research experience, including a publication record in peer-reviewed journals; securing research grants and academic collaboration;
  • Evidence of initiating and supervising research projects;
  • Evidence of experience in postgraduate supervision and mentorship (at least at Master's level);
  • Project management skills, communication as well as networking skills in a team context;
  • Experience and understanding of legislation of a body donation programme.


Recommendation
  • PhD degree in a relevant field;
  • Proven engagement with educational scholarship;
  • Relevant clinical experience and insights.
