Job Details

We are seeking a talented postdoctoral researcher with experience in data science, molecular/genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics, medical statistics and/or causal analysis methods. As the successful candidate you will join the vibrant interdisciplinary research environment in the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) on a collaborative project with Biogen Inc to prioritize drug targets for neurological diseases.

As the Senior Research Associate (SRA) you will work on the application of Mendelian randomization (MR) and genetic colocalization to drug target prioritization. The project will use the MR-Base (www.mrbase.org) platform, IEU OpenGWAS database (gwas.mrcieu.ac.uk) and EpiGraphDB (www.epigraphdb.org) platform developed within the IEU. As the role holder, you will implement MR and colocalization approaches using these platforms, applying these to specific drug targets and systematic target screening. You will also develop R packages to support this type of systematic analysis and develop a pipeline for MR, colocalization and mediation analysis using molecular traits.

As the successful applicant you will have experience of applied statistical analysis, ideally working with genetic association study data, and will be qualified to PhD level (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline. Strong computing/scripting skills (especially in R), and an ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment would be an advantage. Collaboration with Biogen is a central component of the role, and will be offered the opportunity of research visits to Biogen in Boston.

As the successful applicant you will benefit from the collaborative multi-disciplinary research environment of the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) within Bristol Medical School, with access to a range of training and career development opportunities.
