Job Details

We are seeking to appoint an experienced researcher - with strong quantitative and qualitative skills - who wishes to develop a career in primary care mental health. This post provides an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to publish papers, undertake secondary data analyses and write grant applications to secure future funding (e.g. NIHR RfPB, NIHR postdoctoral fellowship).

The successful applicant will have an interest and expertise in both qualitative research methods and applied quantitative research methods and experience of primary care mental health research. They may have a background in epidemiology, medical statistics, psychology, or another relevant discipline. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate outstanding academic ability, coupled with the potential for future research leadership. They will either have completed, or be about to complete, their PhD; will have a clear vision of the research they would like to pursue; and be able to convince the panel that their proposed work is relevant to primary care.

We want to recruit someone who is interested in the application of quantitative and qualitative skills to address practical research questions in relation to primary care mental health. This may include both qualitative work to understand the acceptability of novel interventions and quantitative work including randomised and non-randomised designs, epidemiological studies and systematic reviews.

A key priority for this post will be to build on the successful partnership between the University of Bristol and the Research and Evidence team (R&E team) at NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (BNSSG CCG), and, for the successful candidate to begin to develop an externally funded research programme.

Funding is available for 24 months and has been secured from BNSSG CCC Research and Evidence team through their Research Capability Funding allocation. A key priority for this post is to gain further research funding in partnership with local CCGs, with an emphasis on aiming for NIHR funding streams.

For further information, please contact Professor Nicola Wiles ( Nicola.Wiles@bristol.ac.uk ) or Professor David Kessler ( David.Kessler@bristol.ac.uk ).

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
