The School of Cancer Sciences provides a stimulating work environment for more than 100 scientists, clinicians and associated staff, investigating cancer and its treatment.

We are looking to appoint a Technician to support the Observational Study and Tissue Bank activities associated with research programmes in B-cell malignancies funded by major UK cancer charities, including CRUK.

You will be an enthusiastic team-player, contributing to the work of a group of scientists investigating the mechanisms of disease progression in B-cell leukaemias and lymphomas. You will join an expanding team of clinicians and scientists with a strong grounding in cancer B-cell immunology, genomics, molecular/cellular biology and bioinformatics. You will have relevant laboratory experience, display a high level of motivation and have the ability to work flexibly as part of a team as well as independently.

You will be required to process primary leukaemia/lymphoma cells from a range of patient samples as well as performing immunophenotyping, calcium flux and IGHV mutational analysis and other genetic analyses to a high standard. You will be required to comply with meticulous record-keeping and database management together, working together with dedicated data-mangers and lab-based scientists, for all processes undertaken as well as fully comply with legal requirements, GCP and GLP.

You will have a skill level equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, NVQ3. Training will be provided where necessary.

You will require a good understanding of the current health and safety regulations.

Applications from EU candidates are welcome. The post is based at the University of Southampton, University Hospital Southampton (UHS) campus. Working hours are flexible except for 1 day a week when sample processing is required from 4pm-9pm most weeks.

This post will be based within the Cancer Research UK Centre and Centre for Cancer Immunology at the Southampton General Hospital campus, occupying modern, well-equipped, purpose-built laboratories, with support from clinical and laboratory-based colleagues.

The position is funded by Cancer Research UK and is 0.5 FTE until 31st March 2022.
