Job Details
Would you like to join our technical team as a School of Physics Specialist technician, providing electronics support to students and academic staff? Would you enjoy working with a wide range of scientific equipment types? Do you enjoy working with students and have excellent interpersonal skills? Maybe you've worked in a physics or electronics laboratory in a school, college or university?
The School of Physics is seeking a specialist technician to provide electronics support for Physics research and teaching, operating from the electronics workshop. The post is full time (35 hour week). You will provide training to both staff and students and oversee and advise on their own electronics work in the workshop and ensure they understand and comply with all safety requirements. You will be involved with design and build of innovative equipment for various research projects as well as front line repairs to a wide range of equipment both in the labs and the workshop. You will be responsible for maintaining stocks of components and maintaining the equipment in the workshop and managing requests for jobs so they can be completed within the required time-frame to ensure research projects are not unduly delayed which could cause loss of funding.
Educated to A-level or equivalent standard preferably in a science-based discipline (or with equivalent experience), you will ideally have an electronics qualification and hands-on experience of electronics, fault-finding and repairing equipment, and you must be confident in upholding safety regulations and comfortable prioritising competing demands in a fast-paced environment. The ability to communicate effectively with academic staff, postgraduate researchers and undergraduate students.
For informal enquiries, please contact Steve Neck - Technical Manager; steve.neck@bristol.ac.uk
We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
