Job Details
One Senior Research Associate position is available in the High Performance Computing research group at the University of Bristol. This position is associated with the EPSRC-funded ASiMoV prosperity partnership project.
Based in the Computer Science department, you will carry out research in the area of applying advanced computer architectures so solve Exascale multi-physics problems in the aeronautics space, specifically in the virtual design of gas turbine jet engines. This 3 year role will explore emerging architectures, such as the AI/ML optimised processors from Graphcore, Cerebrus and Google, GPUs from NVIDIA, AMD and Intel, and the latest vector and matrix engines being added to CPUs from Intel and Arm. These will be applied to a range of multi-physics problems relevant to ASiMoV, including CFD, electromagnetics, thermomechanics, combustion, and contact and friction. The role may contribute to the development of relevant mini-apps for these science codes, as well as their porting and optimisation to a broad range of relevant architectures.
You will have a background in high performance computing, with demonstrable experience in advanced computer architectures, ideally those from the AI/ML space. You should also have experience porting scientific software to these architectures. The ideal candidate would have a strong track record of publications in international-quality venues. Examples include IJHPCA, The Computer Journal, IEEE/ACM SuperComputing, ISC etc. In addition, you will have excellent written and spoken communication skills including the ability to explain and share deep concepts.
Applicants are required to have at least a Masters degree in Computer Science or a closely related area.
The post is offered on a full time, open ended contract with funding for up to 3 years in the first instance.
