LIFe in Transition, Improving Outcomes for Care Leavers

The School for Policy Studies undertakes research in a wide range of policy areas that affect us all in day-to-day life, ranging from housing and neighbourhoods to health care, family policy to social justice, health inequalities to domestic violence, child welfare to social care for older people, poverty to social work, governance to criminology.

Improving outcomes for Care Leavers The LIFT is feasibility trial of a brief, web-based training intervention for Personal Advisors, designed to help them improve the health and well-being of young people leaving care. Preparatory work to inform the training programme was completed prior to the study being paused as a result of COVID-19. We are now ready to restart the study.

Over the next 18 months you will:

• Support a group of health and social care professionals to develop the training programme. You will provide the group with excellent project support, helping to develop the logic model that will set out how the training is expected to improve outcomes for care leavers.

• Be responsible for the day-to-day management of the project You will establish a robust system for project management that addresses all aspects of the study protocol

• Prepare the ethics submission for the feasibility study You will lead the drafting of the study's application for ethical approval from the relevant ethics committee.

• Undertake study recruitment and data collection You will lead the recruitment of both local authorities and care leavers, and coordinate the collection of data throughout the study.

• Work with service users and carers (PPIE) and our Peer Researchers You will help our partner agency Coram Voice with the recruitment, training and support of peer researchers, and support the involvement of other young people and professionals in the study.

• Provide regular progress reports and assist in the production of study report You will use your project management to keep the project to time and budget and your analytic skills in helping to prepare reports based on the study's findings.

You should apply if:

• You are excited about undertaking research with disadvantaged young people.

• You have a track record of excellence in research and strong project management skills.

• You understand the nature of early phase randomised trials and the challenges of working with a vulnerable and sometimes hard to reach population.

• You can build strong, effective relationships with a range of people from different sectors and levels of seniority.

• You have excellent communication skills and can clearly articulate verbally and in writing.

• You are someone who can get up to speed quickly, thrives on digesting lots of information, is mindful of competing priorities, and can drive activity forward in a sustainable manner.

Interviews will be held on 13th November 2020 and the closing date is midnight on Monday 19 October 2020.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
