Job Details

Based in the High Performance Network (HPN) Research Group within the School of Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Engineering Mathematics (SCEEM) at the University of Bristol this is an exciting opportunity to join a strong team working to support the fast growth of the laboratory in Optical Networking and Future Internet research which are currently funded by several European and national projects.

The HPN Research Group, which is part of the Smart Internet Lab and led by Professor Reza Nejabati, specialises in the application of advanced hardware and software network technologies for Future Internet Infrastructure. The HPN Research Group is an international leader and highly influential in the fields of Future Internet Experimentation, 5G and Beyond 5G Networking, Optical Networks, Quantum Networking, Data Centre and Cloud Computing, Software and Hardware Defined Networking, and AI assisted Networking.

You will carry out research, software development and experimental work for high performance networks in the following fields:
  • Control plane and algorithm development for dynamic quantum networks
  • Software development for quantum key distribution and distributed quantum computing
  • Integration of quantum cryptography with other cyber security protocols
  • Integration and coexistence of quantum network and classical network
  • Quantum secured 5G networks


You will carry out work leading to publications in high-quality journals and presentation at international conferences and work on research activities with other members of the group as well as collaborative research groups in industrial university laboratories in Europe and beyond.

You will contribute towards preparation and submission of research proposals to national and international research funding organizations and industry and contribute towards further evolving the existing experimental facilities and assist in project management duties.

You will have a PhD in networks or communications and/or experience with the following:
  • Network control plane
  • Optical network
  • Software defined networks
  • Network security


This appointment is offered on a fixed term contract for one year in the first instance.
