Are you interested in the mental health of young people?

Would you like to support the co-ordination a large, international study?

Are you confident in working with people from different disciplines, backgrounds and countries?

Are you keen to develop expertise in global mental health research?

An estimated 9.8 million Indian 13-17 year olds have a mental health condition. The lack of understanding of, and support for, adolescent mental health in India is a critical care gap. Our ambitious and innovative project aims to co-design and feasibility test a multi-component, whole school intervention targeting risk and protective factors in adolescents, teachers, school cultures and families.

We will use participatory methods with India participants to co-design three interventions spanning psychoeducation, mental health literacy, school climate and stigma. We will learn about barriers and opportunities for upscaling the interventions (including health economics and pathways to impact policy) and will raise the profile of adolescent mental health in India via film-making and social media campaigns as well as strategic impact events.

You will play a key role in project managing this three-year, interdisciplinary project funded by the MRC, ESRC, NIHR, UK Aid and DfID. The project is jointly delivered by the University of Leeds and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience in Bangalore, India, and includes team members from a number of UK and India institutions. This post will be based in the School of Psychology, University of Leeds and you will make at least one (fully funded) field trip to India in the company of other team members. The project offers you an opportunity to connect with diverse fields, such as film-making, participatory methods and health economics as well as psychology and psychiatry.

You will work closely with the Principal Investigator to support project delivery and will be involved in planning and monitoring project progress, communications with the UK and Indian team, ethics applications, evidence-syntheses and reports, as well as management of data, budget, website and social media. There will be opportunities to plan and contribute to international and UK impact and dissemination events. We are looking for someone who is comfortable communicating with diverse professionals and community members and who is ready to join an ambitious research team. You will be supported via weekly meetings, research training, supervision and career guidance.
