Job Details
A Research Associate will be appointed to work on a research project that will focus on determination of interparticle contacts in colloidal gels and glasses, using particle-resolved studies. The project aims to approach the mechanical properties of soft solids in a novel manner, combining the particle-resolved studies of dynamically arrested systems with contact imaging that is beyond the state-of-the-art.
You should have or be about to obtain a PhD or DPhil in physics, chemical physics/physical chemistry and have experience in: experimental soft matter and particle-resolved studies in particular, self assembly, crystallization, glassy dynamics, and working closely in an interdisciplinary team.
In addition, experience in the following experimental areas is essential: real space analysis of structure and dynamics of colloids at the single-particle level, and development of image analysis methods. You should have one or more publications; you must have strong communication and interpersonal skills including excellent English language skills.
This research is funded through a grant awarded by the EPSRC to Prof CP Royall at the University of Bristol and Dr RL Jack at the University of Cambridge.
Informal enquiries to Prof CP Royall chcpr@bristol.ac.uk .
We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
